Senator Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is the latest in a long line of concerned citizens who have raised concerns over the overt bias shown by the Department of Justice and FBI.
From the Justice Department’s treatment of parents concerned about the introduction of Critical Race Thory (CRT) material in school, to “intelligence experts” signing off on a statement claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop was somehow “Russian disinformation,” to key FBI and Justice Department officials playing a role in falsifying and manipulating documents to justify FISA warrants and unjustly implicate General Flynn and former President Trump, America’s confidence in these bedrock institutions are at an all-time low.
On Tuesday, Senator Chuck Grassley charged the Department of Justice and FBI with “political bias” after a top FBI investigator posted anti-GOP comments on social media.
Grassley expressed his concerns in letters to Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray and DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
According to the Daily Wire, “the letters include examples of posts from the FBI agent’s now inaccessible LinkedIn and Twitter profiles.”
According to Grassley, Timothy Thibault, an assistant special agent in charge (ASAC) at the FBI’s Washington Field Office, posted and “liked” multiple posts across his social media platforms that were highly critical of Republicans and former President Donald Trump.
Grassley asserts that Thibault “likely violated several federal regulations and Department guidelines designed to prevent political bias from infecting FBI matters, including the Attorney General Guidelines for Domestic FBI Operations and FBI social media policies.”
Grassley also charges that “ASAC Thibault has demonstrated a pattern of active public partisanship, such as using his official title for public partisan posts relating to his superiors and matters under the FBI’s purview, that is likely a violation of his ethical obligations as an FBI employee.”
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Grassley wrote that Thibault’s actions “present a grave risk” of politicizing and undermining public confidence in the FBI’s work — particularly investigations that Thibault is a part of leading.
Thibault’s proclivities are not a surprise to the general public who have waning confidence in the deteriorating justice system severely compromised by old-guard players such as Comey, Mueller, Brennan, Baker, Rosenstein, Page, Strzok and the like.
Grassley’s letter gave special attention to Thibault’s biased social media activity on LinkedIn, noting that he “liked” a Washington Post article claiming “the damage [Trump] has done to the Justice Department will endure — and may be irreparable.”
The Post article, titled “The Justice Department confirms things are even worse than we feared,” criticized former Attorney General Bill Barr’s decision to intervene in federal prosecutors’ recommended sentence against GOP operative Roger Stone.
Thibault boosted anti-Trump content on Twitter and shared mocking and critical comments of other Republicans and the Catholic Church.
Thibault also retweeted a Lincoln Project tweet captioned, “Donald Trump is a psychologically broken, embittered, and deeply unhappy man.” The Lincoln Project is a notably biased, anti-Trump agency.
Thibault’s targets include Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., and former Vice President Dick Cheney. After Tuberville’s election win in Alabama’s Senate race, Thibault responded to a tweet from Lincoln Project cofounder Rick Wilson mocking Tuberville and the states of Alabama and Mississippi.
When Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., posted a photo of her father on Twitter captioned, “Dick Cheney says WEAR A MASK.” Thibault responded to the post, commenting, “Your dad was a disgrace.”
On December 18, 2019, Thibault responded crassly to an antiabortion tweet from a Catholic priest, Frank Pavone.
In April of this year, The Washington Examiner noted that Thibault tweeted, “Can we give Kentucky to the Russian Federation?”
The tweet was in response to the service of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Rand Paul — both represent Kentucky, and both are Republicans.
It seems a case can be made that the Justice Department is filled with personnel who are spiteful, bitter and biased.
The Daily Wire reports that the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to Wire’s request for comment.
